Top News 2

The search for survivors has begun after Hurricane Ike swept through parts of Texas. President Bush declared a major disaster area in Texas after some cities were flooded, many homes were damaged and power failure.
New worthiness- After the Katrina debacle last year the United States government has been given the opportunity to show that it has learned from past mistakes. Americans were displaced after last years major hurricane drowned New Orleans and its surrounding areas. Some of those displaced found their way to Texas and have had to evacuate their new homes in the wake of Hurricane Ike.
Though there was a call for the evacuation of south-eastern Texas, it is estimated that roughly 100,000 people did not opt to leave before the hurricane hit(DEB RIECHMANN, Associated Press Writer). A declaration for federal aid was given by President Bush today that is meant to help displaced families, temporary housing and low-cost loans for uninsured properties.
